Forty Days And Forty Nights ... Sounds Familiar

WORD COUNT: 59,374

Yes, I made it! And the first draft of "We Have Seen His Star In The East", my National Novel Writing Month story for this year took just under four weeks to get done and get posted!

Well, twenty-seven days, fourteen hours, and twenty-three minutes if we must be that technical.

Shorthand 27:14:23. And it really IS a first draft, but I refuse to come back to the words (I can say that those words are all mine!) of the novel and edit the chewy center out of that sucker until January! I deserve a break.

So here for your perusal are my favorite, favored, and most interesting posts I read and saved in the second half of November -- I did take time to find, and even in a few cases WRITE, some good ones! And they may appear in a novel near you.

It's a big world out there, David

2. So tempted to stay here and drin $4 Blue Moons all day

3. Writing today is like walking through syrup, slow and sluggish, but without the cloying sweetness. Ugh.

4. The more I ponder the thought of an American being beheaded on foreign ground, makes me glad that my father who was one of the many that fought and are still fighting to keep us free, is not alive to see this. It is a sad state of affairs when a country like ours allow people that will not even show there face to do this. As much as this pains me it was not the first or more than likely will not be the last. Maybe one someone will take notice of this and do something . Just my thoughts.

5. One time, I fell asleep on Nov. 1st and didn't wake up until about 5 p.m. on Nov. 31st. With only 7 hours remaining (well, 6, because I had to use the bathroom and eat), I opened a naked unblemished Word document, closed my eyes, and wrote like I had never written before.

My fingers were a white blur (I am white). I typed so fast that time and space seemed to fade away, leaving only a sea of words. I was a master bricklayer reaching into the heavens and grabbing every word I needed, and laying it in its proper place. The angels wept as the story unfolded before them.

When all was said and done, I had written the greatest masterpiece in the history of man, from way back when we was monkeys and into the future when we evolve into aliens. I collapsed and opened my eyes to behold its glory.

Unfortunately, I had neglected to plug the keyboard into the computer. And I had also soiled my trousers.

But don't give up.

6. If I ever become a teacher, I will NOT assign group projects because they are like socialism, punishing those who work hard and try and rewarding those who sit on their butts and do nothing.

7. "Are those your parents?"
"Yeah. That's them."
"They sound kind of pissed at each other."
"They're fighting again, but it's November. It's to be expected."
"The holidays, or black Friday shopping?"
"Writing."
"Huh?"
"Every year they tried to write a book in November."
"Is that the nano thing you told me about?"
"Yeah, but they try to do 100,000 words and write it together, rather that one 50k each."
"And this is about the....plot?"
"Semicolons."
"Damn. Was that just a pot being thrown."
"Probably."
"That's over the top."
"You should have heard the Oxford comma debate of 2010."
"It can get worse than that?"
"Last year, they decided on Erotica. I seriously need a therapist now."
"That bad?"
"The cat even ran away."

8. I'm flattered :') but in this case I was so surprised by their dresses that I failed to revel in the awesomeness. Ok maybe I reveled a bit, but I was just so astonished. You would have taken it in stride and just been thrilled. Which is awesome 😎

9. Just opened up an email with the title: Visiting the "Slayer Statute" in Illinois. SPOILER ALERT: There was not ONE mention of vampires.

10. The scariest monsters are not the monsters. It's the authors. Scare me

11. You can be sensitive and be hurt and still be strong enough to push past it. Strength isn't not being hurt. Strength is going on when it hurts. In that case, those who are easily wounded but continue are stronger than those who feel nothing.

12. Do you have truth-tellers in your life? It can be hard to hear what they have to say. At the same time, we hope that God will work through them to speak to us.

13. As long as you are having fun and are creating a world that you love, it's not a waste of time. You don't need to get published to make this worthwhile. It's like reading a book. Nobody tells you reading a book is a waste of time.

14. Be Grateful. God Woke Up The Righteous And The Unjust This Morning.

15. What's on my mind... I can't stand traffic in Jacksonville.

16. I'm still trying to figure out why sex is such a big issue here in the US where in other countries the issue is violence. It's always struck me as odd.

17. A drunk woman leapt into a taxi stark naked. Sachin, the Indian cab driver made no attempt to drive off.
"What's wrong with you Luv, haven't you ever seen a naked woman before?"
"I'll not be staring at you lady, I am telling you, that would not be proper, where I am coming from..."
"Well, if you're not bloody staring at me Luvie, what are you doing then?"
"Well, I am looking and looking, and I am thinking and thinking to myself, where is this lady keeping the money to be paying me with?!"

18. There are no new stories. The only thing that's new is the way you tell them.

22. I'm not saying I'm all pro Duggar family, but I've never really had a major issue with them, having that many kids has never been a 'dream' of mine, but if it' what they wanted, then go for it. Who am I to judge? Anyone who has seen the show KNOWS that this family is very faith based. A family who is faith based is going to stand strong in the face of things that they don't agree with or believe in. Why is that suddenly a surprise? It's annoying how we can have soooo MANY trashy TV shows on TV, and the 2-4 good Christian or faith based shows on TV are bashed for their believes. There is still freedom of speech and freedom of religion in this country (though it's beginning to become harder and harder to tell!!) Not everyone is going to agree with being gay or gay marriage. I've watched the Duggars show several times and I've never heard them say they wish ill on these people or that they hate them. If it comes time to vote and there is a choice to vote on gay marriage, chances are they will vote no, and they have that right to do so, just as others have the right to vote yes. I am not going to judge the Duggar family because they do not support gay marriage or living that life. Just like I'm not going to judge someone who does come out as gay and wants to marry their partner. Those are not my places to pass judgment. There are some things I believe/feel and will not share with others. I do not believe that anyone has the right to force me to think like they do. That goes for both the Duggar family, and for any other community out there. I feel the way I feel about different things. I do not think it is right to ban the Duggars show for simply believing how their faith believes. It doesn't make them haters or cruel people. Just people standing up for their faith, the way others stand up for their community. I'd much rather watch the Duggars than the Kardashians any day! At least if my kids were to watch the Duggars they wouldn't be watching something I wouldn't want them to know about.

23. When God sends you help, don't ask questions.
She hurried to the pharmacy to get medication, got back to her car and found that she had locked her keys inside.
The woman found an old rusty coat hanger left on the ground.
She looked at it and said, "I don't know how to use this."
She bowed her head and asked God to send her some HELP.
Within 5 minutes a beat-up old motorcycle pulled up, driven by a bearded man who was wearing an old biker skull rag.
He got off of his cycle and asked if he could help.
She said: "Yes, my daughter is sick. I've locked my keys in my car. I must get home.
Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?"
He said, "Sure." He walked over to the car, and in less than a minute the car was open.
She hugged the man and through tears said, "Thank You SO Much! You are a very nice man."
The man replied, "Lady, I am NOT a nice man. I just got out of PRISON yesterday; I was in prison for car theft."
The woman hugged the man again sobbing, "Oh, thank you, God! You even sent me a Professional//:)

24. Ta-Nehisi Coates has written a piece examining his own previous reporting on Cosby, and the reasons that he omitted a more thorough investigation of the rape charges. It is hard, even for male journalists with no relation to the victims, to mount enough acceptable evidence against a public figure accused of rape. Ultimately, Coates says, he wishes now that he had done differently then, wishes he had been more courageous in examining the rape charges.

Now, he has some choice words for Cosby’s defenders:
The heart of the matter is this: A defender of Bill Cosby must, effectively, conjure a vast conspiracy, created to bring down one man, seemingly just out of spite. And people will do this work of conjuration, because it is hard to accept that people we love in one arena can commit great evil in another. It is hard to believe that Bill Cosby is a serial rapist because the belief doesn’t just indict Cosby, it indicts us.

25. JEFFREY: We have failed ... miserably.

26. Climbs out of NANO hole, brushing off cracker crumbs and coffee stains. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER! PRAISE TO THE DRAGON!
IN a come from behind victory, when all hope seemed lost. Victory was close at hand, yet so very far away. There is a time to lay down your arms and surrender. Today is not that day. There is a time when all odds seem against you, and defeat is certain, today is not that day. In the face of insurmountable odds, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the evil queen of hte universe once again triumphs!
ALAS - I summoned my dragon, and conquered NANO!
Nevermind the typos. Nevermind the bad grammar. Nevermind the XXXXX for the character names when my mnd went blank. Nevermind the words that dragon misinterprets ( YEah, going to have a blast fixing those.)
Victory IS MINE - thus sayeth the queen.
Tonight we celebrate.

[Obviously not MY victory announcement -- that came a few days later.]

27. Oh publix sub I so love you.you make my belly feel so full and happy and I can order you online and pick you up so easily and fast. Smooches

28. Good Morning my FB friends. This will be my only post about Ferguson. AS a resident of the greater ST. Louis metropolitan area I can tell you that more than anyone else across the nation, the law abiding citizens of the area are the most appalled.
The death of Michael Brown was a tragedy. No one is questioning that.
His father called for peaceful protest. President BArak Obama called for peaceful protest and expressed his faith in the black community to do the right thing AS the coverage of a group that tried to turn over a police vehicle then bashed the back glass, then set it on fire was on the right side of the screen. Peaceful.
There was a sum total of 12 buildings destroyed by fire, 7 businesses looted, 15 more had their windows busted and vandalized. Peaceful.
While the peaceful protestors walked to the interstate and blocked through traffic - the criminal element had a heyday.
I just want to know: How does this help anyone? They've destroyed businesses in their own neighborhood, put several people out of work. After months of violence and repeated break in, vandalism and looting - most of these businesses will not return to this neighborhood.
For future jobs - when a business considers a city to expand and bring their factory with hundreds of jobs do you think they will consider ST. Louis? NOT HARDLY.
How does this help citizen/police relations? How does this help the family of Michael Brown? How does this help your own children?
Many of the law abiding citizens that build a community will leave the area. Who wants to stay in this sort of neighborhood?
This is just one more reason to move away from St. Louis.

[from a friend of mine who lives on the outskirts of said city, post-grand jury announcement]

33. You are Thor. You're a bold, take-charge leader with an eye for adventure and a knack for getting into trouble. Dishonesty never sits well with you, and you have a strong aversion to passive aggressiveness (you much prefer plain aggressiveness). Your stubbornness can throw a wrench in your relationships, but at the end of the day, you're a devoted friend and a romantic at heart.

36. Oh! It is absurd to have a hard and fast rule about what one should read and what one shouldn't. More than half of modern culture depends on what one shouldn't read.

[Algernon Moncrieff, from the Oscar Wilde play The Importance of Being Earnest]

37. Psalms 94:16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

I imagine myself in a crowd of BILLIONS, and the Lord standing on a platform in the distance ahead. He says these very words......and I stand up, raise my hand high in the air, and jump up and down so He can see that I volunteer to stand for Him in the most difficult time in all of history. I love Him, and I want to please Him more than ANYTHING......so I'm bouncing up and down and jumping in the air with my hands up until He says........."Ok [Poster's name], I see you back there."

38. ~Being thankful should happen everyday, not just celebrated one day a year. Its important to remember that daily. Even through the heart aches life can give us to bare.Be respectful to others in this time of year, alot of us may have lost someone we love and the holidays can be a tough time to get through- remember that its always better to be nice, loving and compassionate towards others.
One smile , one kind remark or one act of kindness really does go a long way.

I , myself see this, feel this and look for the beauty in life. I may not understand how people can be cruel - dishonest - and selfish.but that's life and the people in it, It is ultimately our choice, to be selective to that.

There are a few people in my circle, I value and love with everything I am.

People who have shown me compassion and truth. People who give so easily and selfless. You know who you are--and I will always love you for being a beautiful part in my life.

And for that I am thankful.~
