Have fun.

[Originally this listing of my favorite statuses and quotes (this means I didn't originate them unless I say so) from the first half of March was titled "Pretty Much A Lion Chasing Its Tail" to reflect the month. And for a little more on where the expression of March going in like a lion and out like a lamb comes from -- I learned something! check out this link from The Paris Review: http://www.theparisreview.org/blog/2015/03/02/folk-wisdom/

But the third commitment to fail-proofing my marriage is to have fun, which one more again is not as easy as it sounds. I pray I'll get that way though. -- David]

6. There is no greater need today than to support Israel with our daily prayers. Israel is under attack on the political and military fronts and is threatened with total annihilation. Why am I so into Israel? The Lord wants us, commands us to pray and support Jerusalem, Israel. These are God's "Chosen People", even though they denied Him. He is and always will be "King of the Jews." He died for all of us, Jews and Gentiles alike.
When we pray for Jerusalem, we are in obedien...ce to the Great Commission. The Great Commission mandates that we be a witness unto Him in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem is sharing God's love and compassion.
I ask you to join me in prayer every day for Jerusalem and the nation of Israel. Not only will this encourage you and your life, but you will be mightily blessed of God for your obedience.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces." For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, "Peace be within you" (Psalm 122:6-8).

7. Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime. (Martin Luther)

10. Does anyone know where I might have a single black swimsuit bottom to go with the 20+ tops I can find?! Clearly I need to organize my closet. On the plus side, I did find the missing elf on the shelf.

11. I been rewatching The Batman on Netflix and Batman is listening to rock music while Alfred brought him nachos, they broke the rules.

12. I dislike the concept of soul mates.
However, I lile the metaphor.

13. To voice doubts was unthinkable, but that did not mean that doubts did not exist.

(The Pool of Fire)

14. Okay here's an odd question for [National Novel Writing Month]. Or maybe not. Never know what this group considers odd.
What are the items that you need to get through November? (Other than space and time with no one bothering you.) What are the things that really get (and keep) your creative juices/mojo/ideas/ect. going?
My answer is jolly ranchers, enough hot tea to float an oil tanker in, chocolate, and an unlimited supply of toothpaste. Because if you eat enough jolly ranchers then eventuall...y you cannot taste or feel your own teeth. Might sound a bit juvenile but these have gotten me out of some weird writers blocks.
What are yours?

15. "One gets so used to being surrounded by beautiful things," she said. "It's good to have guests; they help us to see them again."

(Railhead)
16. "What was the answer to this one?"
"Brachiocephalic artery."
"Are you sure? Because I asked you about it on the exam ..."
"I'm pretty sure."
"But I asked you if you were looking for *points* this vessel or *points* this vessel ..."...
"Yes, you did. That doesn't mean your answer was correct."
*blank stare*
"The pin was in the brachiocephalic artery. You put descending aorta. Your answer is wrong."
"Are you sure?"

Yeah. PRETTY sure.
Happy Spring Break to me !!!!!!

17. A conundrum...This book is trying to become a member of a genre I have never read and I'm not sure I can stop it. I'm thinking of filing it away until I've read more in that genre.

18. Oh mah Glob!

19. This is how Batman should be written: a stand up, honest and respectful person that's sees the potential in everyone; the only thing that's manic about him is that he shoves all the worst criminals into an asylum because he's transfixed on the idea that even the worst of people can be rehabilitated.

20. It's true I cut the end off of the ham.
21. Yesterday as I took some photos of a church, the Robert Parks Methodist church in downtown Indy. I saw some photos of Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan, and the actor Jimmy Stewart visiting church there some years ago..
Later I heard Nancy had died, now whether you liked Ronald Reagan as president or not? Personally I did!
One thing that no one can deny is his and Nancy's was true, the stuff fairy tales are made of. I think it goes to show that yes real love can be found that is... lasting and enduring how may find it and lose it theirs only seemed to grow over time.
I think it's not always easy to stay in love, but more times than not takes work, both people being devoted to the other more so than just themselves.
Understanding it is about us, and not just about me.
Knowing this and making a effort to be the best mate you can be, even when one doesn't always feel up to the task.
Knowing it's important to give and not just take as well.

I would argue there is a considerable difference!)

24. The first two sound like lifetime movie titles and the last is too long. I'm not super fond of any of them, but Not Our Daughter is the one I would pick.

25. Women in History are still rarely known or heard about even when there are records so I give you Gloucester's very own founding Abbess (back in the days of Mercia) Kyneburga dating from more than a thousand years ago. It was a mixed Abby.

26. David Alvin you really killed my post! Please stop always liking and comments on every little single thing I post!

34. **Post not writing related**
**and rather long...I apologize**
I work at Disney. It has been my dream to work here since I was five years old...and today, something magical happened.
...
I received a phone call from a firefighter. His girlfriend and her children were on their way to our resort, but sadly he would not be able to make it because he became injured during work. He told me how he had paid for the trip, their tickets, a floral from WDW Floral and Gifts---he even gave them $200 worth of gift cards to use, but he wanted to add more! He said he knew his girlfriend would put her card down instead of using his, so he wanted to put some small credit on their room for shopping. I told him this:
"Sir, I want to thank you for your services, and the dedication and sacrifices you make everyday for your town, city, and family...but I can't take your information."
There was a bit of a pause, followed by a confused chuckle from the firefighter. "Well, why not?" he asked.
"Because Mickey Mouse would like to give your family a credit of *this much* to thank you for the dedication and services you provide as a firefighter. We know you wanted to come and be here with your family, and we want to add this pixie dust as a way to thank you for everything you have done."
The phone was silent...until I heard sniffling. He cried on the phone, which made me cry. We sniffled and cried quietly for two minutes, until he said, "I never thought...I just...I can't believe it...you really want to do that? Wow...Th-thank you...thank you so much...oh my God...I can't believe it...I--I'm sorry for crying..." and then he cried a little more.
Once he cleared his throat, he then insisted on receiving my name for a letter. I don't do what I do for the letters, or recognition...I do it because of the smile I know he was showing on the other end of that phone. I do it for the families that sometimes can't have repeat trips...I do it so those families can have memories that will last forever.
He did so much for his town...I wanted to show him how grateful I was for him and the services he and the rest of the firemen...police...soldiers... provide.
I guess...I wanted to share this, because...this is just a way of saying "Thank you", for those who have family members or if you yourself wear a uniform and protect our country...whether you're a soldier, firefighter, EMT, Police...THANK YOU for everything. I appreciate you, more than you know!!

35. it's worth pointing out that robbing a bank is basically pointless. The amount of money in the world that's physical is less than 8%, the rest exists digitally. Breaking into a bank to redistribute wealth is likely to be significantly less effective than simply 'hacking' the right bank accounts from your PC.36. Guys, be intentional about pursuing happiness together with her because she's God's "reward" in your life.

(From This Day Forward -- hey, I got a lot out of this book!)

37. Note to self: Going to store while leaving something on the eye of the stove--bad idea.

38. I must continue to tell myself a first draft is me getting the story out. It's not going to be great, and I shouldn't be disappointed when it doesn't look good.

39. Its a good point but I do belive the ship self cleans to a point like the sonic showers dust grime and dirt would be cleaned via a static field and though u never see them a star ship would have stewards yeomen and various other crewmen that would keep every thing els on board clean and tidy and the officers happy like a naval ship of today40. Oh! And for you few Oncers: Rumbelle is not as virginal as you think. Belle was "purchased" as a courtesan. That Deal they made? "It's forever, Dearie." Marriage. "Can't I know you?" I point out specifically the following:
-he's a total lech around other characters, and when he specifically says "I'm not looking for love. I'm looking for a caretaker for my rather large... (gestures to groin) estate." Watch French turn purple, and remember that the Castle is something he "inherited" because it's cursed by previous Dark Ones, and he doesn't really own it, so much as just moved in.
-Watch in season two: when Rumble and Belle both wake from nightmares, it's the same bed. In fact, in Crocodile, when she wakes, the first thing she does is touch the empty space in bed and look for him
-Belle/Lacey costumes. Crocodile? She's wearing a bloody nightie. All short skirts and high heels, modest, yet tempting. Lacey is an outright power hungry, golddigging slut, which speaks to a darker part of her nature, and Gold doesn't seem to mind one bit.
-for someone who regularly dances circles around others, he is unusually shy with her. They can comfortably share a quiet space, and yet she can scoot closer to him and outright herd him around. IT'S ADORABLE. Consider also how close they are in that precious kiss scene in Skin Deep! He doesn't shy away, but she flusters him, because he realized he fell in love with his prostitute.
-who hires the bookworm daughter of a duke to be a maid? Part of it is to embarrass her in her gown because he has problems with rich authority, but being a brash, intelligent woman with a bad habit of speaking her mind is something better suited in... a courtesan, not a trophy wife or cleaning help
-in Crocodile again, she actually refers to herself as a "kept woman" to Ruby, which is a phrase that means "mistress" in those days
-because Belle is right -- he's lonely. Physically, emotionally, and intellectually. He needs a courtesan with the breeding to see things on his level, but not someone so high she won't submit to him. Naturally, he got more than he bargained for.

For bonus: season 1, cursed Gold was probably using Ruby in this capacity as well. Watch the pilot and Crocodile for jealous she-wolf unabashedly checking out alpha male.

. Presumably, there's a lot that goes on between movies. In many ways, Tony & cap have some common ground. They are both outsiders, and they've both dealt with betrayal. Tony found out that he was being kept in the dark by the government, and his own company.

He found that the technology developed by his company was being used to commit crimes, in other countries. I think he entrusted his technology with SHIELD, because he felt they could put it to good use, but without being subject to the Government, which he felt was corrupt. Of course, he learned that SHIELD was compromised by Hydra.

I think Tony is torn. He feels that power needs oversight. Yet, when ever he trusts third parties to oversee, the end up being corrupt as well. More than once, he has had to trust his own resources, to fight corruption. Finally, after the Ultron incident, he once again feels the need for oversight. He is so afraid of repeating his mistake, that he is willing to trust institutions, that let him down before, just so he can keep himself in check.

All I know, is that a lot of his fights are with Cap. I also know that most relationships, have fights. Also, it seems like Cap is one of the few that Tony hangs around most with, when he's active with the Avengers. Tony & Bruce may be professional colleagues, but I never got the impression, that they were that close, either. "I'm not that kind of doctor..."

Reading between the lines, how can two guys get under each other's skin so much, yet when they want to talk frankly about their mission, they're the ones chopping wood together?

47. Conversation with a couple of friends yesterday:
Friend #1: "Agnostics are better than atheists, I mean, at least they believe there could possibly be a God."
Friend #2: "What do you mean?"
...
Friend #1: "Well, if you believe in God, at least you have hope. And if you're agnostic, even just thinking God is possible, you have hope. Atheists have no hope at all. That's no way to live."
Me: flabbergasted. Can't even speak. (She has no idea I'm an atheist.)
Pretty sure I've found a REALLY good section to put in my book now. Because I'm much better at these sort of conversations long after it's over LOL and because...wow. That's...wow. Two of my MC's are going to have this conversation at some point. It HAS to happen.

48. In my experience, 10% of all symbolism is something you thought on the fly while writing, and 90%comes from researching afterwards and going "Oh, look at that. It fits like a glove, so maybe I should tweak the story a bit"

49. Oh, it's got its moments ... but eventually if you bench-press hard enough the characters themselvs will get into the plots and it just flows from there

50. Are you a Gravgurdan? The way you stated that is so, so, SO Gravgurdan.

53. Since I'm thinking about it, I'd like to specifically address the issue of comparing skin to food...

Other than food, what easily recognized comparisons can be made to describe color along the whole gamut of skin colors?

Ebony? Freaking cliche, and rarely applied correctly, thus leaving the reader without an accurate sense of the description.
Dirt? Yeah, because that's not offensive (or properly descriptive.)
What else is brown? Tree bark. Yeah, that's a good one... (That's sarcasm, btw.)

This is clearly not an exhaustive list, and I'm not saying alternate descriptions don't exist, but let's just be aware that avoiding food items in descriptions could very well lead to some awkward, and possibly offensive, alternatives.

So, to repeat myself from above... There is no right answer, especially if you're white. Just write your damned story.

[This was written in response to a person who asked whether when describing a character who is black (skinned) should she use the word "black" or avoid it.]
