That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. 6

Is my communication — when I do — truly effective? One goal I have with the Long Ridge Writers Group is to be a more effective writer, someone who observes and doesn’t just see (are you listening, Dr. Watson?). But I am getting better already; I can see that I’m getting through when I write like I speak. Lord, help me to make a good difference in others’ lives, and now I can be with Dad and Martha and all the people I care for in a new way.

Lucado, Max. He Still Moves Stones. Dallas: Word Publishing, 1993.

The title of the opening chapter (“Bruised Reeds and Smoldering Wicks”) sets the tone for the whole book. Though he does use his experiences and others’ to make this book more readable, Lucado never deviates from the lessons Jesus teaches in Scripture when He’s involved in the lives of others. His teaching comes, not like a rabbi’s, but through His example. By touching the people illustrated where they are, you get to see that what’s really sick or what’s really missing is not applicable to our bodies but our spirits — to live right starts by believing right. Let us know that miracles happen every day, and like peace on earth, they begin with me.

AND ...

the day before our daughter Sarah’s scheduled to get the pins out of her foot that have been there since December 10th, Martha and I went after work (we get off at the same time of day) to one of MY co-workers’ farewell party at Ebeneezer’s. And we came home to grilled cheese and tomato soup, something to keep us warm.

And I need that, even more than I did in 2001.
