Tomorrow Night At Sarah And Jeffrey's House . . .

. . . our nephew and their younger cousin Trevor will be spending the night! Sunday at church Trevor's mom Lesa (yes, THAT Lesa, Martha's oldest sister who cut my hair Sunday afternoon) brought him over and asked him to ask Martha what he's been asking Lesa for the last month. Since the last day of school is tomorrow for the school year, we can certainly manage this. "Can I spend the night at my friends' (or my cousins', depending on the time of day) Sarah and Jeffrey's house?" Couldn't turn that down, and again because the last day of school for the kids until fall is tomorrow we don't have to!

And then from the other side of the world, I come away with Anne Sibley O'Brien's graphic novel The Legend of Hong Kil Dong: The Robin Hood of Korea. ISBN 9781580893022 This seventeenth-century legend was also the genesis of the first novel written in Korean has the title character whose father cannot recognize him because he's born out of wedlock. An assassination attempt leads Hong Kil Dong to leave and the skills he learned in a monastery come in useful leading a band driven out of their homes due to higher and higher taxes and levies -- essentially, picture a Robin Hood story where nobody dies, they're just dishonored!

Though the trick played on the eight ministers of Korea who each bring a "straw man" Hong Kil Dong before the king thinking they've captured the real one is priceless! There's more I wanted to do with this, but it's a busy day ... last night the whole family enjoyed a beef stew I had cooking in the crock pot with beef, carrots, and potatoes (no onions, for I'm the only fan of them, grumble grumble) and Sarah had the bright ideas of adding sour cream to it. It's delicious. Getting "Victory" edited into my latest novel to be released by Jeffrey's ninth birthday in thirty-nine days, but more about that another day too.

Awesome sauce!
